Beartooth Pass Spectacular!

Today we headed out for about a 350 km day trip with the highlight being the Beartooth Pass. We drove up to Red Lodge in Montana where we stopped for lunch at Red Lodge Pizza Co. It was an excellent stop and had a lot of menu items beyond pizza. From there we started toward the Beartooth Pass. It was a perfect day for it – sunny with clear blue skies. We had very good visibility and temps were in mid 20s C. Even at the top of the pass it only dropped a couple of degrees.

At the top we found a few glacial lakes.

What a beautiful day we had. Not too busy on the roads and perfect weather.

After we finished the Beartooth Pass, we headed back to Cody via the Chief Joseph Highway. It has some nice views but not as spectacular as the Beartooth did.

Tomorrow we plan on driving west into Yellowstone National Park and out the north route through Lamar Valley.

Steep mountain grades

Sunday we headed down from Bald Mountain to go to our next campground west of Cody, WY. The first part was the area we had traversed on Saturday.

Lots of steep grades but the engine brake held well even with the trailer attached!
Rugged mountains!

By early afternoon we had reached our campground. Still a number of sites available. We’re here for 5 nights, no cell signal but planning a number of day trips where we should have some signal.
