This was a long day – we probably did a bit more than we should have but we saw so much. It was about an hour to the East Gate of the park from our campground. We had purchased a tour from Guide Along which, once downloaded, we were able to have commentary at the points of interest as well as interesting details.
Our first stop was at the mud pots – we did a 1 mile walk around the various boiling pots. They certainly stink – the sulphur smell is very strong. There are also a few that have some eruptions as well!
Yellowstone Falls are spectacular! We had an amazing day – the weather was perfect, not a cloud in the sky and as blue as blue. The Yellowstone Canyon was also very pretty with lots of colour.
Our finish to our day in Yellowstone was a drive through the Lamar Valley where we saw a number of herds of buffalo, 4 pronghorns, a coyote. Earlier in the day we also saw a bear, but by the time we saw it, it was too far away to get any pictures.
Although we had packed lunch, the day was late and we needed more to eat. A quick stop in Cooke City, MT for a hamburger to go and then we were heading back along the Chief Joseph Hwy, but it was dusk and open range cattle were roaming so we had a slow drive home between the cattle and watching for wildlife. We made it safely home at 11 pm. Don’t want to plan that late of a drive next time.
