So we finally got away from home this morning about 10 – all those last minute things that seem to always take more time than you expect😉. All was good until we got to the Bluewater Bridge in Sarnia/Port Huron. We knew the bridge was under construction and it showed a 45 minute delay for passenger vehicles. However, diesel fuel has been showing at $3.27/gal. for the last couple days at a station we’ve been at before and knew we could get in to. So considering we would be getting somewhere around 80 gallons it looked like a $64 saving from anything we were going to get crossing at Detroit. We made the call to take the longer wait. Bad move – more like a 90 min wait and really not sure what the issue was – most of the wait was after we were over the bridge and in sight of the border patrol. Then when we did get to our fueling station the price was $4.19! By then we were both hungry and tired. So we made a grocery stop instead and are now heading (we hope) to a private home for the night. If it works out we should arrive around 7:30. Waiting on a response to our request. Tomorrow we’ll carry on but have to drive through Chicago- hope we can get good timing with it!

We now have a departure date!
So, after all the anticipation of our trip, we plan on leaving tomorrow! August 1st we’ll be on the road, heading for family connections in Nebraska. We have solar on the roof of the trailer now and the sun is working its magic. We were able to run the fridge using our captured solar power and even run the hair dryer! It’s exciting to see it in operation after the last month of Paul’s hard work. We’re looking forward to trying more extended boondocking and being able to camp in more national parks and forests that often don’t have electric hookups. We also hope to try some stops on public lands as well.
