Heading to some Hot Springs

Thursday morning we took time to make an omelet for breakfast. With only a three hour drive ahead, we wanted to have a more leisurely morning. After dumping our tanks, we headed out about 1100. We’re officially in the mountains!

Town of Fernie

Our first town was Fernie. It looked like a nice tourist town. We saw paved bicycle trails and lots of people around. I had read they have a campground too, but significantly more expensive than where we stayed at Sparwood. Another beautiful day with lots of blue sky, we followed the Kooteney River for some time.

We left highway 3 and headed northwest enroute to Invermere. Along the highway, north of Fort Steele, we stopped at a picnic area for a midway break. A short walk took us to a small lake.

From the water’s edge Paul counted over a dozen turtles. By standing quietly, we were able to see some come up on a log near shore.

Shortly after we were back in the truck, we started following the Kooteney River again.

We finally got to our campsite after having some wrong directions. In its second year of operation, it’s close to the highway and in the sun but we have hookups for the next six days so we can run the air conditioner.
