Jasper, AB

Well, our drive on Monday turned out to have a lot of cloud by late morning, so we really didn’t have any view of the eclipse. We watched it on the broadcast by NASA instead. Joyce’s sister and her husband drove to Tennessee so the could see the full eclipse instead of the partial one that would have been in Southern Ontario. We drove through Mount Robson before leaving BC, but it too was in clouds.

We arrived at Whistlers Campground in Jasper National Park just after lunch. We got settled into our site and got out the barbeque and had an early supper. After supper, we drove out the 65 km to Miette Hot Springs northeast of Jasper.

We spent a couple of hours soaking in the pool. It was a busy place, busier than most of the other hot springs we’ve been in this trip. We did meet a couple from Germany who are travelling here with their two adult children for a month. They’re camping in a tent – we’re glad to be in the trailer this time!

Tomorrow we’ll head out and see some of the awesome sites closer to Jasper and hopefully do some hiking.

Last days of BC

We had some cloudy days for travelling through our last days in BC. The road was fairly good once we got to the Yellowhead Highway. We spent a night in a beautiful provincial park – Typee. We went walking through the campground when we got there and found a lot more Saskatoon berries. We picked a couple of pints and the next morning Joyce made a pie with them. We’re heading to her sister Sue’s brother and sister-in-law’s house in Vanderhoof Saturday night and offered to bring dessert. Her brother-in-law is putting a moose roast in the crock pot for supper – it will be the first moose for both of us.

We enjoyed our night in Vanderhoof – a beautiful view overlooking the valley! Guess what? They had a lot of Saskatoon berry bushes too so Sunday morning before we left, we picked enough for another pie since the one we brought was all gone. Joyce also made some jam with the berries.

One more night on the road in yet another provincial park in BC. They really know how to keep their parks neat and clean. The sites are spacious and level.

Unfortunately there is a campfire ban so we can’t enjoy sitting out with a fire, but with all the wildfires in the province, we certainly understand the ban.

Tomorrow it is on to Jasper – it’s the eclipse of the sun – we’ll see if we get a view.
